Taiwan president sends message to rain-hit areas

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has expressed sympathy for people affected by the torrential rainfall in Japan.

Tsai posted a message in Japanese on her Twitter account on Saturday.

She wrote that she is praying for the people affected by the record rainfall and for the rapid reconstruction of the devastated areas.

Tsai wrote that Taiwan has often experienced the havoc caused by heavy rain.

She added that Taiwan is ready to provide Japan with whatever support it needs.

People in Taiwan donated about 180 million dollars after northeastern Japan was hit by the massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011.

Japan provided emergency aid to Taiwan in 2016 when the island was hit by a powerful earthquake that left more than 100 people dea d.
